There is nothing wrong with cooperation or learning from those more experienced than yourself who have some amount of what you could call authority. Having role models is important. The problem is when they attempt to tell you exactly how you should live your life and employ punishments and shaming tactics to "keep you in line" if you don't do as you're told. This strict hierarchical way of living may have some kind of stabilizing effect within human societies, but it has also been a safe haven for abuse and a breeding ground for megalomaniacs, sycophants and psychopaths for god knows how long. Discernment then becomes extremely important when dealing with any kind of organization in any society.
