~3~
Binah/Understanding

Picture
Your Decanate Number is 3. This is a very feminine number and corresponds to both the 3rd Sephirah called Binah/Understanding, also known as the Great Mother, The Great Sea etc., and to the 3rd card of the Major Arcana, The Empress, and hence to Venus.

All the archetypes surrounding the number 3 possess an
all encompassing or all begetting dynamic or narrative. 3s have an inviting aura and are generally very warm, generous and sociable. The number 3 has a lot to do with the giving of gifts, togetherness, the giving of accolades, happiness, passion, love, honesty and open relationships. 3s also have a natural inclination to the arts, design, decoration, fashion, crafts and music.

Since the personality of the 3 is naturally very open with warm and
smooth features so to speak, they may need to overcome passivity and conformity when encountering problems, especially problems involving some degree of confrontation. Other Decanate Numbers are more given to problem solving and overcoming obstacles which can lead to the 3 in particular always "letting them handle it". Instead of backing off, the 3 should learn to share their views, even if it's about how to not take things so seriously, and how to decompress from and alleviate the tensions present. 3s generally abhor conflict and tension and possess a deep empathy for the pain of others, either psychologically or otherwise. This is especially true for the 3 of Swords decan which more than any other card denotes empathy, sensitivity, and deep psychic or psychological diagnosis and healing. This can make 3s great healers, and not even healers in a strictly professional sense, but great healers in simply being there for others to open up to.

There is a saying that "The way of the Tao is blunt", that is, lacking sharp and jagged edges. It is
ordinary, or rather, the natural way of understanding existence. Another way to say this could also be "The way of the Tao is curved." The 3 is naturally in harmony with the Tao since this number and it's surrounding archetypes are all about naturalness, curves, smoothness and ease. The 3 is pregnant with form so to speak.

As seen on the Modality page, the 3 exists within the 3-6-9 column (also take note of the cards in the 3rd column in the Numerology section of the Major Arcana page for more harmonic alignments of the 3). The 3-6-9 column has much to do with pleasant atmospheres, healing, open communications, honesty, beauty, simplification and integration. For the 3 in particular there is an incredible love of harmony and being at one with nature. Finding nature within oneself is important to a 3, that is, understanding that there is no distinction between mind and nature, consciousness and nature, or humanity and nature. These are artificial divisions which the 3 inherently knows to be false on some level. This may in fact lead to the 3 feeling uncomfortable around those who operate with this belief construct of being separate from nature.

The 3 is numerologically connected to the 12th card of the Major Arcana, The Hanged Man. The Hebrew letter attributed to this card is Mem, מ, which means Water. This is a card indicating enlightenment through sacrifice, though the word "sacrifice" may not mean what many take it to mean. In many Tarot decks, the Hanged Man is smiling, sometimes with a rainbow pictured around his head. His legs form a cross, indicating the Cross of Elements from which consciousness is "hanged" in life. The "sacrifice" is indicative of an individual
owning their cross and using it as fuel for an alchemical process in which the cross itself becomes spiritualized. The Hanged Man sacrifices himself out of a deep love for Divine Order, and pours his "blood" into a chalice, bowl or grail pictured at the bottom of the card. We see this theme within the story of Buddha achieving enlightenment under a tree, Jesus understanding cosmic plan whilst hanging from the "tree" or cross, and also Odin achieving enlightenment by hanging himself from the tree of Yggdrasil. The tree represents the "world soul" as Plato described it when giving his thoughts on the Greek letter Chi (X) which is itself shaped like a cross and may be read about further in the Alpha and Omega of Soul Development section of the Neptune page.

Useful cards for the 3 to contemplate are within the 3rd column of cards in the Numerology section of the Major Arcana page. This is the column of 3-6-9-12-15-18-21, or, The Empress, The Lovers, The Hermit, The Hanged Man, The Devil, The Moon, and The Universe. The cards most harmonically aligned to the 3 within this series are The Empress, The Hanged Man, and The Universe, though contemplation of all 7 cards is recommended.
