~5~
Geburah/Strength

Picture
Your Decanate Number is 5 which corresponds to the 5th Sephirah Geburah or Strength. 5 is a number of motion, travel, teaching and learning, and of support through diversification, that is being able manage or hold many assets or investments together which reduces overall risk. If one thing "goes down" there is backup support already there to prevent greater hardships or collapse. The 5th card of the Major Arcana is The Hierophant, and the Letter associated with this card is Vau which means 'pin' or 'nail'. The nature of this 'pin' or 'nail' is to hold separate worlds together and to maintain peace,  understanding, and a certain fluidity between them. For this reason 5s may make good police officers, judges, or any other authority figure who indeed "keeps the peace". Another meaning of this 'nail' analogy is found in the border conditions that exist between elemental worlds, for example the shore of an ocean where the water meets land. 5s love travel and motion,  and may also very much enjoy living next to large bodies of water, as many people naturally would, but for a 5 it can be especially inspiring since it validates in a way his or her inner knowing that vastly different worlds and elements can exist together in harmony. The waves endlessly crash on the shore with much turbulence and churning of sediment, but one does not hear either the land or the water "complaining." The seeming "clamor" is relaxing, natural and harmonious.

As you know, the number 5 is exactly half of 10. 5s have an ability to be a sort of "go between". In other words they can see the idealistic world "above", and also the more practical and actualized world "below", and hence can see ways of bringing the two worlds together in ways that work. This dynamic connects the 5th card, The Hierophant, to the 11th card, Justice, since 5 is half of 10, 10 being the number of sephiroth, and 11 is half of 22, 22 being the number of Major Arcana in Tarot. Both the 5 and the 11 hence share this "balancing" dynamic. 5s can possess many gifts, and it is important to stick with the one that they are most skilled in and make it their livelihood. Generally, 5s are problem solvers. They're innovators and enjoy learning from the problems they encounter. If there were a "trial and error" area of the Tree of Life, the 5th sphere would be it. The 5th sephiroth of the Tree of Life can be thought of as a furnace where raw materials are tempered and refined so they may pass further into 'higher states'. But if the raw material, like metal for example, does not
want to pass through the fires, then it will never become a strong sword or a useful tool. It will remain a misshapen piece of metal with no practical use unless and until it goes through the trials by fire represented by the 5th sephiroth (This "furnace" or alchemical pot is pictured in the 14th card, Art/Temperance).

There is another connection between the 5th sephiroth and the 14 card of the Major Arcana, Art/Temperance. These numbers, 5 and 14, are numerologically connected, which means one must look further into their meanings for more connections. The hebrew letter associated with the path of Art/Temperance is Samekh, ס, which means "support." Samekh is where we get the word "stomach," that which digests food for us. The very letter Samekh is reminiscent of a stomach in shape, obviously sounds similar, and the path of Samekh on the Tree of Life actually exists where one's stomach would be, between the spheres of Tipareth and Yesod. This stomach, or samekh, is what gives us "support" and is where we bring many elements together, i.e., food, into one "pot" or "alchemical cauldron" where they are mixed together, broken down, refined, and used for fuel and fortitude. Here we see that the 5th sphere on the Tree of Life serves the same function as Samekh.  The 5th sphere "tempers" elements, and the 14th Major Arcana card is also called "temperance" denoting its function of tempering and mixing elements as well. All of this adds to a 5 individual's fortitude, support through diversification, and their need for harmony between elements by mixing them together.

On the Modality page, we see that 5 is part of the 2-5-8 column (also take note of the 2nd column of cards in the Numerology section of the Major Arcana page). This column is all about initiation, delegation, partnerships, acquaintances, comings and goings, compromises, the Law and legalities, and also success and mastery. For the 5 in particular, working within an environment of diversity is a great advantage. Things that may seem complex and complicated to one person are not that complex to a 5, which makes the 5 very well equipped for any kind of service or administrative role that must deal with each person on an individual basis while being under the same "administrative roof." The 5 can dispel complications and keep things running smoothly for each person they come into contact with within the business, organization, public forum, or establishment.

5s can make very good teachers since they understand the learning process so well from being attuned to this 5th sphere of trials. Consequently this is also the role of the Hierophant of the Major Arcana. That is, to teach and to initiate into new ways of learning and into new knowledge bases and new paradigms. It can be within any field from religious to medical to music or art depending upon the specific talents and expertise of the 5.

Since 5s are built to overcome obstacles and are such good problem solvers and trouble shooters, they may get stuck in trying to
solve the problems of others too often. Sometimes an individual must be left to their own devices to figure things out for themselves, in whatever the case may be. Leaving certain things "loose" and open ended is an important part of teaching and learning, though sometimes complete noninterference  is the best policy depending on the situation.

5s also have a close relationship with plants and animals which can make them great veterinarians, gardeners, or any kind of naturalist or environmentalist. The sign which corresponds to The Hierophant is Taurus, the Bull. This is a very earthy sign indicating things like practicality, sustainability, farming, "the land", self control, economy, fiscal maneuvering, and general expertise in, and care for, material matters.

Useful cards for the 5 to contemplate are within the 2nd column of cards in the Numerology section of the Major Arcana page. This is the column of 2-5-8-11-14-17-20, or, The High Priestess, The Hierophant, Strength, Justice, Temperance, The Star, and Judgement. The cards most harmonically aligned with the 5 in this series are The Hierophant and Temperance, though contemplation of all 7 cards is recommended.
